Bergamot originates from Italy. Its flowers bloom around April, and fruits are harvested between November and March. The fruit is 7.5 to 10 cm in diameter, in the shape of a flat ball, inverted egg, or pear, with a strong sour taste and thin skin. Bergamot is one of the most delicate plants in the citrus family because of its special climate and soil needs. Italians have long used bergamot for stress relief and skin care. In Greece, unripe bergamot is eaten as a dessert with coffee.
