Peppermint is a hybrid of water mint and green mint, and was first described by Carl Linneaus in 1753. What characterizes the best quality peppermint is the high concentration of menthol, such as that found in doTERRA Peppermint essential oil. Often used in toothpastes and chewing gums for oral hygiene, Peppermint is one of doTERRA's favorite essential oils and also one of our best-sellers.

Spearmint is a perennial plant that thrives in temperate climates and can grow up to 1 meter tall. It is widely used in chewing gums, candy, and dental products because of its minty flavor that promotes fresh breath. The sweet, refreshing aroma ofTERRA® Brazil Spearmint essential oil is purifying and uplifting, making it ideal for evoking a sense of focus and a positive mood. Spearmint is quite different from Peppermint in that it is milder when used topically.
