Known as one of the most valued and precious essential oils, doTERRA Frankincense has extraordinary benefits. In addition to its notoriety in the New Testament, the Babylonians and Assyrians burned Frankincense in religious ceremonies and the ancient Egyptians used Frankincense resin for everything. Its relaxing and beautifying properties are used to help the skin when applied topically. When inhaled or diffused, Frankincense essential oil promotes feelings of peace, relaxation, satisfaction, and overall well-being.

Our Frankincense essential oil is a proprietary blend from three types of Frankincense resin – Boswellia Carterii, Boswellia Frereana, and Boswellia Sacra. Different Frankincense trees thrive in different environments and soil types. Some grow best in sandy soil, while others do best in a dry, rocky climate. We source from multiple locations to ensure our resin is harvested where each variety of Boswellia tree grows best.
Frankincense has been a valued trade commodity since ancient times by the Egyptians, the Assyrians, the Persians, the Macedonians, and the Kushites. These precious resins comprise what is believed to be the world’s oldest global supply chain.
The essential oil comes from the resin of the Frankincense tree. Resin “tears” are carefully cleaned and organised by size and colour before distillation.
In Somaliland, our Frankincense comes from the Sanaag Region. Approximately one third of the population lives in this region, and Frankincense harvesting is the main source of employment. The trees are passed down through generations in Somaliland and individual harvesters have access to specific regions by tribal right.
