Celery Seed

Apium graveolens

Celery was used as early as the 5th century by the Chinese, and is widely used in Indian Ayurvedic practices today. The conventionally grown celery found in supermarkets looks nothing like the celery found in local farmers' markets. The celery plant grows up to 90 cm, is bright green, and radiates life. Celery has a complex, strong, sweet and spicy aroma. The plant takes two years to fully mature and produces tiny, bronze or brown fruits. The seeds are the main repository of the essential oil. Limonene, which is the dominant constituent, puts Celery Seed oil in the same category as citrus peel and pine needle oils. The oil produces a soothing, relaxing and positive environment.
