Breu Branco

Protium heptaphyllum

Native to the forests of the majestic Amazon region, the large and evergreen Breu Branco tree produces a fragrant resin from its trunk that is sharp, piney and pungent. Known locally in Brazil as 'Breu Branco', it belongs to the Burseraceae family similar to Frankincense and Palo Santo, sharing similar chemical compositions. The essential oil is rich in P-Cymene and possesses a fresh, smoky, resinous and woody aroma. The resin has long been used in toiletries, soap and cosmetics and is a common component in fragrances and essences.
