Sourced from Madagascar, doTERRA Ginger essential oil is derived from the fresh rhizome of the ginger plant – the subterranean stalk of a plant that shoots out the root system. A featured ingredient in many Asian dishes, Ginger has a hot, fragrant flavour when used as a kitchen spice. In Western tradition, Ginger is most often used in sweets like gingerbread and ginger snaps.

Our Ginger is produced through our Co-Impact Sourcing model in Madagascar and Kenya where we are working with hundreds of small farmers called “outgrowers.”
Ginger is planted in the spring and harvested in the autumn or winter, when it is mature. The oil is steam distilled from the rhizome. It takes between 1 and 2 pounds of ginger rhizome to make a 15 ml bottle. A rhizome, different from a root, is the subterranean stalk of a plant from which the root system grows.
Our Ginger essential oil is unique. Whereas many companies distill their oil from fully dried rhizomes, we distilled our oil while the rhizomes are fresh, shortly after harvest. This results in a better chemical and aroma profile.
Alongside doTERRA’s efforts to source the highest quality essential oils, there is also a commitment to make a positive difference in the lives of farmers, harvesters, distillers, and their communities. doTERRA's mutually beneficial sourcing principles are a key element of the company's mission and core values. Some are as follows:
You will find your Quality ID on the bottom of doTERRA single essential oil bottles purchased after May 2016. The Quality ID will contain a series of six or seven numbers and one letter.
